COSMETIC GYNAECOLOGY
The fastest growing subspeciality for women which includes procedures to enhance the aesthetic appearance of the vulvovaginal region, vaginal repairs to enhance or restore sexual function that are degraded due to childbirth or aging.
The Story..
In 1973, a French, Belgian, and Italian dermatologist met on a Mediterranean cruise ship while traveling on holiday. The three friends little suspected that a few days of chatting would give birth to what they termed a “restless and revolutionary Aesthetic Medicine”
Diverse procedures from “chemically remodelling the body’s silhouette” (SBME 2011) to “prevention and treatment of all types of aesthetic pathology” (SEME 2011). This field incorporates diverse specialties and has already procreated new hybrids such as “aesthetic gynaecology”.
The Anatomy.
The external genital organs include the mons pubis, labia majora, labia minora, Bartholin glands, and clitoris. This area containing these organs is called the vulva.
The vagina has three layers:
- The internal mucosal layer
- The intermediate muscularis layer
- The external adventitial layer
The internal mucosal layer: had traverse folds/rugae
Segments & Perfomers
The five main procedures of Cosmetic Gynecology are:
- Hymenoplasty: A surgical procedure that restores the hymen
- Labiaplasty: Improve the appearance of inner labia, and reduce the vaginal lip size.
- Hoodectomy or Clitoral unhooding: Remove the tissue that normally covers the clitoris.
- Monsplasty: Lift, tighten and shape-up the pubis, the "bikini bridge," which may be prominent when wearing outfits.
- Vaginoplasty: Tightening of vagina or vaginal rejuvenation, for sexual satisfaction.
